First Day of Spring, "Baby It's Cold Outside!"
Yesterday we had another major snow storm. We certainly are ready for Spring this year. Even with the shoveling, plowing, and stoking of wood stoves, we have managed to start some of our seedlings for the 2013 season in the heated lean-to greenhouse. There are flats of cucumbers, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, onions in the planting beds in the second story of the greenhouse. We set up a work table in the lower area of the greenhouse and transported the planted flat up to the planting shelves upstairs via the newly built dumbwaiter. Thanks Steve & Ron! You just saved us a lot of trips up the stairs. Steve's design of the planting shelves included a watering system from nine hoses mounted above the 72 foot shelves. We are moving along at Sullivan Center for Sustainable Agriculture in anticipation of warmer days. I can almost taste the garden fresh salad made with butter lettuce, cucumber and cherry tomato! ---Carol
